Four Weekend Masses

Usher

Ushers greet parishioners, help with seating and offer hospitality at liturgies. They take up the collection, help in the event of an emergency and offer bulletins and other materials as people leave church. They tidy up the church after services in preparation for the next liturgy. Men and women serve as ushers as well as young adults. Time commitment is approximately 1 or 2 hours per week when scheduled.

Greeter

This is an important ministry that requires a warm smile and a friendly manner. These ministers greet everyone coming to liturgies, setting the tone of welcome and hospitality that is a hallmark of All Saints Parish.  Greeters need to arrive at church 20 – 30 minutes before the start of the liturgy. This is a great ministry for families to do together. Service is on a rotating schedule.

Sacristan

Sacristans make sure that everything is prepared for the liturgy – bread and wine are out, cross bearer and gift bearers are chosen, and lectors and Eucharistic ministers are present. If not, they find substitutes from among the attendees. They also assist at liturgies if needed. They need to arrive at church at least 30-45 minutes before liturgy starts. Schedule rotates depending on how many offer to serve as sacristans.

Minister of the Table (Altar Server)

Assist the priest during the liturgy as book bearer and assist at preparation of the gifts and communion. Training is provided for this ministry and is open to youth in grade 3 and above.  Adult servers are also needed and this is a nice opportunity for families to serve together. Adult servers are also needed for funeral masses. Service is on a rotational basis.

Cantor/Psalmist

Strong music skills are a plus for cantors and psalmists. They lead the congregation for weekend liturgies and weddings, funerals and wake services. Vocalists young and old are encouraged to offer your talent for this ministry.

Adult Choir

All singers are welcome. No previous musical experience is required – just a willingness to learn and share your talent. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm and before the mass on Sunday. Additional rehearsals are scheduled for major feasts and seasons. Please join us at a rehearsal or speak with the choir director after mass

Instrumentalist

Do you play a musical instrument? Would you like to play during liturgies or other events? If so, please let us know what instrument you play.  Time commitment varies.

Lector

Lectors proclaim the readings at mass. Dedication to practice and preparation before proclaiming the Word of God is required. Training is provided. Open to junior high and high school students and adults. Scheduling is on a rotational basis at the mass you attend. Lectors are occasionally needed at funerals and wake services.

Eucharistic Minister

Assist with distribution of the Eucharist at mass and cleaning and putting away the vessels after mass. Training is provided for this ministry which is open to high school youth and adults. Eucharistic Ministers must be church members in good standing and be able to receive communion themselves. You are scheduled at the mass you attend on a rotational basis as part of a team

Liturgy of the Word with Children

Adults are needed to share the readings at the Sunday masses with children from 3-8 years old from September through May. Offering a reflection geared to the children on the readings of the day makes the Scriptures come alive for them. A love for the scriptures and working with young children is necessary.  A youth cantor and reader are also part of the team. Scheduling is on a rotation basis.

Wake Services

Lead or assist at the Vigil for the deceased at the funeral home.  This is a time to gather and celebrate the life of the deceased by praying the vigil prayers from the Rite of Christian burial and sharing memories. Presiders are needed to lead these services. Reflecting on the scripture readings and making a connection to the life of the deceased is essential. Training is provided by the diocese and the parish for this ministry. Service is on a rotational basis approximately 5 – 6 times per year.

Musicians for Jail Ministry

Be part of a team that prays with jail inmates at the Bay County Jail. The service is always on Saturday at 1:00pm for one hour. Musicians play an instrument and lead the singing. This ministry is on a rotating schedule with other Catholic Church teams about every six weeks. Training is required and provided. Background check is required by the Bay County Law Enforcement Center.

Senior Living Center Prayer Service

Presiders, readers and musicians are needed to offer a prayer service on the first Tuesday of the month at 11:00am at a senior living center. The residents are offered a short prayer service and reflection on the readings of the day. Service in this ministry is on a rotating schedule approximately 4 – 5 times per year.

Marriage Preparation Program

If you feel you have a healthy marriage relationship, we would love to have you be a sponsor couple for our couples preparing for marriage. You will meet with the engaged couples of our parish and offer dialogue and discussion about topics to help them prepare for marriage. You would meet once or twice with a couple.
